BIOGRAPHY

Paul Carroll, DJ, Music Producer and Engineer, lives up to his alias Digital Filth; creating dark, techy electronic tunes in the genres of House and Breaks. Filth’s alter-ego, DiFi, has earned a separate title under which Paul produces minimal funky techno and electro, whose first release was on the well established Immigrant Records followed up by a release on AudioJaks UFO label with support from the likes of Laurent Garnier and Danny Tenaglia. Paul has most recently been focusing on his Dead Sound project for which he is quickly gaining notoriety in the underground Techno/Electro scene.

Paul realised his passion for music aged just 13, when skating introduced him to the Hip-Hop scene, and he became immediately obsessed with scratching and the skills of turntablism exhibited in 90’s Hip-Hop. At 16 he was introduced to dance music at local Stoke club night ‘Golden’. The intense electric atmosphere of the dance night excited him, and as he saw the energy pounding through the clubbers – he knew this was something he had to be a part of. At 18 he bought his Technics 1210’s.

In 2002 he started to produce under the name Digital Filth and became an established producer world wide around 2006 with support from across the board including the Plump DJ’s, Stanton Warriors, Pete Tong (Radio 1 Support), Loose Cannons (Kiss FM Support), Laurent Garnier, Underground Resistance (Detroit) and many others.

This came too quick and was all due to winning a Remix Competition held by IDJ magazine which pushed Digital Filth into the limelight. Now he feels that was a mistake to do as his productions in his mind were not ready for release as the learning curve was still being climbed. This wasn’t all bad because gigs came in and a lot of cool people were met.

At the end of 2008 Paul realised he wasn’t quite going in the direction he wanted to. He was starting to become labelled as an Electro House producer which he did not want to be a part off, so made the hard decision to drop the Digital Filth guise in order to concentrate on the new alter ego, Dead Sound.

‘I’ve always made a varied style of music but it just seemed that only my house and breaks material was being picked up on. When one of my tracks called Krusher broke through it was big on the underground scene at first but it got too big and transferred over to the Electro House scene which I did not care much for, so I decided the best thing would be to drop Digital Filth. I’ll probably start it back up as I do like House/Breakbeat music but for now I want to concentrate on the Dead Sound Techno vibes.’

Paul’s Dead Sound project involves underground Techno/Dubstep and Broken Beat Techno which has quickly gained him support from top varied artists including Dave Clarke, Surgeon, Richie Hawtin, James Ruskin, Bas Mooy, Xhin, Stormfield and Warlock.

Dead Sound is currently releasing on Perc Trax, Elektrax Recordings, Gynoid Audio.
